Lighter and more facile than the Manfrotto, this excellent and reasonably priced tripod has become a favorite among birders. The three sleeving legs are opened and closed with a twist of a tightening ring. The instrument is so well designed that many people can loosen both locking rings simultaneously and unlike many earlier twist-tightening tripods, these rings don’t require superhuman strength to loosen and tighten (even when wet).
Comes with padded legs to distribute weight on shoulders. Mated to a smooth panning, 128RC head the entire unit weighs in at 6.17 lbs. If weight is a concern, you can eliminate a pound by using the Manfrotto 700 RC2. Either combination will give you a tripod and head package that will excel in the field and serve you for years.
